Benefits
Gastric glands present in the stomach secrete acids that help to digest the food. When, due to intake of heavy and spicy food, there is excessive secretion of acids, an individual experiences acidity. This acidity can be due to various other factors also, such as the presence of ulcers, unwanted growths in the stomach, unhealthy eating habits, faulty dietary plans, etc.
Hyperacidity: Hyperacidity is a common disorder in the US. It is due to the irregular eating habits of people.Indigestion: When a person experiences burning or pain in the upper abdomen, or fullness during or after the meals, this is called indigestion or dyspepsia.Flatulence: Flatulence may be defined as a bulging or swelling of the abdomen, due to the formation of gas in the intestine. Grumbling and rumbling sounds occur due to a inflated stomach.Heartburn: It is where liquid content (Acid) of the stomach backs up into the esophagus or the food pipe.Nausea: Feeling of vomiting is nausea. Nausea occurs in the upper gastrointestinal tract (Esophagus, Stomach, Small Intestine, Liver, Pancreas, and Gall bladder). It may be caused by pain, motion, medications and diseases of many non-gastrointestinal organs of the body.Ulcers: An ulcer occurs when the lining of the Stomach, Duodenum or Esophagus is corroded by the acidic digestive juices which are secreted by the stomach cells. A peptic ulcer is a hole in the gut lining of the Stomach, Duodenum, or Esophagus. A peptic ulcer of the stomach is called a gastric ulcer; of the duodenum, a duodenal ulcer; and of the esophagus, an esophageal ulcer.
Ayurvedic Concept
Acidity is described as “Amla Pitta” in Ayurveda and, commonly, it occurs due to faulty eating habits because the Pitta (Fire) gets vitiated. This vitiation produces symptoms like Indigestion, Tiredness, Nausea, Acidic Belching, Heaviness in body, Heartburn, Anorexia, Laziness and Burning sensations.
